The Sigma 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM is a high ratio zoom lens which is designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras This compact high zoom ratio lens incorporates Sigma's original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. This system uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical andhorizontal movement of the camera and works by moving an optical image stabilizing lens group to effectively compensate for camera shake. It offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. It is the ideal lens for several type of photography such as wide-angle, telephoto and close-up. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, a molded glass aspherical lens and two hybrid aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 35cm (13.8") at all focal lengths, and has maximum magnification of 1:3.8, making it ideal for close-up photography. Excellent all-around lens
I bought this to replace the 18-55mm kit lens for the Nikon D60. Nice balance on the D60. Focuses fast. OS makes a clear difference in low light. I chose this over the slightly larger 18-200 OS HSM Sigma to keep the size and weight down. Only had one day, so far, to shoot with it. Took it out for a walk in the local park on Thanksgiving morning and, in fact, the zoom range beyond the Nikon kit lens was just the thing that I was looking for in a compact lens. Very pleased so far. I expect that this lens will rarely come off the camera. No more switching out the kit lens to get that little bit of extra zoom.
